Sousaphone
The Sousaphone is a brass instrument that is based on the on the Tuba. It is mostly used in marching bands, but it also has been used in concert bands. The Sousaphone was developed by the famous American bandmaster and composer John Philip Sousa who used it in his bands. The Sousaphone is a three piston valved instrument that has the same amount of tubing as a regular tuba. The player fits inside the instrument with the brass tubing wrapping around him ending in a large bell above the player’s head. Traditionally the bell rotates so that it can point forward to project the sound being produced outward.
