Euphonium

Euphoniums are a member of the brass family. It is in the range of tenor/ baritone with a sweet sounding, very rounded tone. Like other brass instruments, it is made of brass tubing that is wound around on itself, and ends with a large flared vertical bell. Sound is produced by the player “buzzing" his lips inside a cup shaped mouthpiece. Euphoniums are manufactured with three or four valve arrangements and one particular type of four-valve euphonium is called a “compensating” euphonium. This compensating system reroutes the airflow through extra compensating tubing that enables the player to play a true chromatic scale.

The Baritone is similar to a Euphonium, but a Euphonium has a larger conical bore where as the Baritone has a smaller cylindrical bore and the bell is sometimes pointed forward instead of straight up.
