Flugelhorn
The Flugelhorn belongs to the Brass family. It is similar to the other brass instruments in that it is made from brass tubing coiled around on itself. Sound is produced by the player “buzzing” his lips into a cup shaped mouthpiece. Originally, this instrument was used on the battlefield to summon troops and to coordinate troop movements. Now the Flugelhorn finds a home in both the band and orchestra. Like the Trumpet, the Flugelhorns are made from many different metals and alloys. They also have different valve arrangements; including three and four-valve setup and can come with either piston valves or rotary valves. The tone of a Flugelhorn falls about half way between the trumpet and French Horn. Its tone has been described as “mellow” and “dark” and is heard many times in jazz and popular music. Here at Music Factory Direct we offer several different brands of Flugelhorns and more are being added all the time.
